Wayne County Fatal Crash: 3-Vehicle Crash Killed 3 on Iowa Hwy 2

Wayne County, IA– A three-vehicle crash claimed the lives of three people in Wayne County on Tuesday, September 7, 2010. The fatal motor vehicle crash occurred shortly after 8 a.m., along Iowa Highway 2, just four miles east of Corydon, as reported by the Des Moines Register.
The Iowa State Patrol reported that a semi truck, driven by Thomas Ryan, 59, of Osceola, Mo., was traveling eastbound on Highway 2, at the same time as a westbound Dodge Grand Caravan and a Chevrolet truck, which following behind the Dodge. The semi then crossed the centerline and slammed into the two westbound vehicles.
The semi then rolled and caught fire, causing the Chevrolet truck to catch fire as well.
The wreck killed Ryan and the driver of the Dodge, Edna Renee Downs, 56, of Seymour; and the driver of the truck, Kenneth Mathes Jr., 24, of Plano, La.
The Iowa State Patrol is investigating the accident. Officials are unsure what caused the semi to cross the centerline.
