Lisle, IL—A violent Interstate 88 chain-reaction crash sent 11 people, including three children, to Lisle-area hospitals Saturday, August 21, 2010. Illinois State Police (ISP) deemed a Geneva driver at fault in the DuPage County three-vehicle wreck, according to information provided by the Daily Herald.
Reports indicated 28-year-old Jonathan Weiser, of Geneva, was driving his 2005 Pontiac Grand Prix westbound on I-88, in close proximity to Route 53, when he lost control. Weiser’s car consequently slammed into the back of a 2004 Chevrolet pickup truck driven by a 35-year-old Warrenville man.
The pickup truck then careened from the far left lane of I-88 to the right lane, colliding with a 2011 Toyota Sienna minivan and overturning on impact. A 39-year-old Romeoville man was operating the eight-passenger minivan and was accompanied by three other adults, as well as three kids.
According to Lisle-Woodridge Fire District Battalion Chief Keith Stegman, two injured victims were rushed to Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital for treatment. Nine other injured victims were transported to Edward Hospital. Their injuries were not reported to be life threatening.
Illinois State Police Master Sgt. Susan Ewald reported Weiser was cited for failing to reduce his speed to avoid an accident, as well as speeding, in connection with the 3:55 p.m. Lisle motor vehicle collision.
