Bradenton, FL (News)—A Florida Highway Patrol cruiser slammed into a building after being hit by another car on Tuesday, July 6, 2010. The crash occurred just after 10 a.m., at the intersection of 6th Avenue and 8th Street West, as reported by the Bradenton Herald.

FHP trooper Russell Cruz was reportedly headed eastbound on 6th Avenue West, when a Chevrolet Cavalier hit the left side of the cruiser. The Cavalier was reportedly trying to make a right turn onto 6th Avenue West from an 8th Street West stop sign, when she realized the street was one-way only. The driver of the Cavalier, Carol C. Barrios, 59, of Bradenton, then sped across the road, in an attempt to correct herself, leading to the accident.

Cruz reportedly tried to avoid the crash with Barrios’ car, but was not successful. The impact catapulted the cruiser into the Live Oak Apartments, causing about $2,000 worth of damage to the small building.

Although the front of Barrio’s Chevrolet was ripped off, she was uninjured in the wreck. On the other hand, Cruz sustained minor injuries, including burns to his arm from the air bag. Cruz said he planned to go to a hospital to have his injuries checked out.

Barrios will likely receive a right-of-way violation citation, which will cost her about $166. A full investigation into the wreck is currently underway.
