Minneapolis, MN—A high-speed crash in Minneapolis claimed the life of one teenager and injured four others when their vehicle slammed into a streetlight. The fatal accident occurred around 3:40 a.m., on Tuesday, July 13, 2010 on 29th Ave. NE and McKinley Street, as reported by KARE 11.

Authorities reported that a vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed when it slammed into a streetlight along a residential road. The immense impact of the crash sheared the pole at ground level.

The front seat passenger, whose age is said to be between 15 and 19, was killed in the wreck. There were reportedly five males inside the vehicle at the time.

The driver was rushed in critical condition to HCMC. Officers say the driver was drinking prior to the crash.

The two backseat passengers were trapped inside the wreckage and had to be cut from the car, which took about two hours to complete. The ages of the injured are 17, 13, 16 and 17. The conditions of the backseat passengers were not immediately known.

Reconstructionists from the Minneapolis Police Department’s Traffic Unit are at the scene and investigating the wreck.

A full investigation is underway.
