New Orleans LA SUV Wreck: Former Star LSU Athlete Critically Injured in Crash

New Orleans, LA—A former Louisiana State University (LSU) star football and baseball player who recently signed a contract with the New York Giants suffered critical injuries in an SUV wreck Friday morning, June 25, 2010. The single-vehicle accident occurred in front of the Home Depot along Carrollton Avenue, according to information provided by WDSU.com.

Reports indicated Chad Jones was traveling on North Carrollton toward Canal Street when he lost control of his 2010 Range Rover for unknown reasons. The sport utility vehicle subsequently careened into a streetcar pole, trapping Jones inside. The crash occurred around 5 a.m.

Emergency personnel rushed to the scene to extricate Jones from his damaged SUV. He was transported to an area hospital, where he was listed in critical condition. Jones’ reportedly underwent surgery after the incident. Two passengers who were riding in Jones’ Range Rover at the time were not seriously injured in the wreck.

Les Miles, LSU’s head football coach, displayed his concerns for the former star athlete via Twitter, stating, “Just got news about Chad Jones’ car accident. We are praying for Chad and his family. Keep him in your prayers.”

The New Orleans resident was reportedly drafted by two Major League Baseball teams, including the Houston Astros and the Milwaukee Bears, prior to signing a contract with the New York Giants last week.

A full probe into the injurious SUV accident was expected to be underway.
