San Diego, CA– An early Sunday, June 13, 2010 crash injured four firefighters and a suspected drunk driver, when the inebriated motorist pulled into the path of a Viejas Fire Department fire engine. The firefighters were responding to a medical call at the Viejas Casino when the collision occurred around 5:45 a.m., on westbound Willows Road just east of the casino, as reported by Sign On San Diego.

The California Highway Patrol (CHP) said Yesenia Mitra, 25, of San Diego was pulling out of the casino parking lot when the collision occurred. CHP Officer Brian Pennings stated, “She pulled directly out in front of the fire truck which had its emergency lights on.”

The fire engine reportedly struck the front left fender of the car, which ripped the axel of the truck and caused it to hit a utility pole hard enough to knock it down.

Mitra sustained a broken wrist and was transported to an area hospital for treatment. Official’s say when she is released from the hospital she will be booked on felony charges of driving under the influence (DUI).

Four firefighters were also taken to the hospital or treatment of undisclosed injuries.

A full investigation is underway.
