San Diego, CA—Seven people were rushed to the hospital following a school bus accident in Oceanside on Wednesday, June 9, 2010. The school bus was reportedly broadsided, causing it to overturn on El Camino Real at North Douglas Drive around 11:20 a.m., as reported by NBC San Diego.

The bus was carrying 23 students from El Camino High School, when an elderly driver broadsided the bus. The motorist reportedly just exited her mobile home park and pulled onto the busy road when she attempted to merge with traffic, subsequently hitting the bus.

The bus driver then lost control of the bus, stuck a curb, which then turned overturned onto its side.

Six students and the bus driver were rushed by responding emergency crews to area hospitals for treatment of their injuries. One student was reportedly airlifted to Scripps La Jolla as a precautionary measure. The other victims sustained injuries ranging from minor to moderate.

Officials say the bus was equipped with lap belts, but they are unsure if any of the students were wearing them at the time.

The bus was pulled back upright and is now at the district yard under investigation

It was not reported if the elderly dirver was injured in the wreck or if the motorist received a citation for the accident.
