Edwardsport IN Construction Accident: Scaffold collapses; worker falls 40-feet

Edwardsport, IN—A construction accident at the Indiana power plant has left a worker dead after his scaffolding collapsed, causing him to fall onto the hard concrete some 40-feet below. The painter was killed Wednesday morning, May 26, 2010 at around 11:15 a.m., as reported by WTHITV.
Knox County officials stated the painter, John Garrett, 52, of Owensville was killed while he was painting inside a tank when the scaffolding he was standing on suddenly collapsed. As a result of the fall, Garrett suffered massive head and chest injures when he slammed onto the concrete floor.
Garrett reportedly fell about 40-feet to the hard, cold concrete below.
It was not reported if responding emergency medical teams rushed Garrett to an area hospital before succumbing to his injuries, or if he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Texas-based sub-contractor CBNI, reportedly employed Garrett at the time of the accident.
Other employees were released shortly after 2 p.m. out of respect. Duke Energy officials said they will hold a mandatory safety meeting before work resumes on Thursday.
Officials with the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) are expected to arrive at the scene to conduct a full investigating into the fatal construction accident.
