Suwannee County, FL—A motorcycle crash occurred on Tuesday afternoon, May 25, 2010, and resulted in the hospitalization of an elderly motorcyclist. The wreck happened near Wellborn, Florida, according to information provided by Gainesville.com.

Reports stated a 63-year-old Fort White motorcyclist was traveling southbound on County Road 137 when the accident occurred. The crash scene was located south of U.S. Route 90.

According to Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) Trooper Henry Ortiz, motorcyclist Larry Allen Taylor “failed to negotiate the curve and drove off the roadway onto the west grass shoulder”.

The 1998 Yamaha motorcycle reportedly flipped several times. Consequently, Taylor was violently ejected from the bike.

Ortiz noted that Taylor was wearing a helmet and protective eyewear at the time.

Emergency medical personnel were dispatched to the scene following the 4:35 p.m. accident. Taylor was airlifted to Shands at the University of Florida via medical helicopter. He suffered critical injuries.

Statistics provided by the Fatality Analysis Reporting System (FARS) indicated there were 5,387 motorcycles involved in fatal crashes during the year 2008. FARS was created by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

No charges have been filed as of yet. Investigations into the injurious motorcycle crash are expected to underway.
