Kansas City, MO– An inflatable slide at a school carnival nearly suffocated a 6-year-old boy to death. Officials believe the boy may have tried to enter the slide where the two parts come together instead of getting onto the slide where the normal entry is, as reported by KMBC and KCTV5

Clay County sheriff’s deputies who were at Lakewood Elementary on May 13, 2010, rushed into action and immediately began performing CPR on the boy. The child, who was not identified, was rushed to Children’s Mercy Hospital for treatment.

Adam Brown, marketing director for Fun Services of Kansas City stated, “One of our attendants was made aware that a child had been lodged between two pieces of one of our inflatable obstacle courses. He immediately went over there and found that the child who was not breathing at the time.”

“Our speculation is that he came up to the side of the piece and entered without anybody seeing him, because if he went through the normal way and hadn’t come back out on the slide, we would have gone back in and checked, said Brown.

Brown asserted that the slide was properly set up and all safety procedures were followed.
