Food Safety News: Rise ‘N Roll Bakery recalls cookie mixes for undeclared milk

Middlebury, IN—Rise ‘N Roll Bakery and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) have recalled 20 ounce jars of Rise ‘N Roll Specialties “Gourmet Cookie Mixes”. The product was recalled due to allergen hazards associated with undeclared milk products. The FDA announced the food safety recall on Thursday, May 20, 2010.
The cookie mixes were recalled after it was discovered that they contain milk products that were not listed on the product’s ingredient list. Consumers who have allergies or a food sensitivity to milk could be subject to a severe or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume the affected products.
According to the FDA, “The recall was initiated after it was discovered that the milk-containing product was distributed in packaging that did not reveal the presence of milk. Subsequent investigation indicated the problem was caused by a temporary breakdown in the company’s production and the packaging processes. Production of the product was suspended until FDA and the company are certain that the problem has been corrected.”
The company has not received any illness reports in connection with the recalled cookie mixes.
The recall includes 20 ounce glass jars of the following types of cookie mix:
• CHEWY OATMEAL GOURMET COOKIE MIX
• CHOC-CHOCOLATE DELIGHT GOURMET COOKIE MIX
• HINT O’ MINT GOURMET COOKIE MIX
• INCREDIBLE CHOCOLATE CHIP GOURMET COOKIE MIX
• OAT-RAGEOUS ‘N SWEET GOURMET COOKIE MIX
• REESES’ TREAT GOURMET COOKIE MIX
