Chicago, IL—A CTA bus became involved in a collision with a car on Chicago’s Northwest Side. The accident hospitalized seven people and occurred on Thursday, May 20, 2010, as reported by the Chicago Sun Times.

Reports stated a car tried to make a right turn on the 3800 block of North Pulaski Road when it drove into the path of No. 53 Pulaski bus.

The Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) bus and unspecified car consequently collided, injuring seven people on impact. Police News Affairs Office John Mirabelli reported the bus crash occurred at 12:34 p.m.

According to Fire Media Affairs spokesperson Richard Rosado, an EMS Plan I, which automatically sends five ambulances, was dispatched to the scene.

In all, seven victims suffered a variety of injuries. Rosado noted one was hospitalized in serious to critical condition, five others in fair to serious condition, and another in good to fair condition.

Statistics provided by the Fatality Analysis Reporting System (FARS), created by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), indicated there were a total of 247 fatal bus crashes reported in the U.S. during the year 2008. Of this total 12 occurred in Illinois.

Jefferson Park District police are expected to conduct a full probe into the injuries bus-involved collision.
