Detroit, MI—A violent single-vehicle wreck occurred on the southwest side of Detroit, Michigan, killing two teenagers and injuring four others. The deadly SUV rollover crash happened on Wednesday afternoon, May 5, 2010, according to information provided by the Detroit News.
Reports stated an unidentified motorist was driving a Chevrolet TrailBlazer sport utility vehicle along John Kronk when the fatal accident occurred. Upon attempting to speed around another vehicle on the roadway, the driver apparently lost control of the SUV. As a result, the TrailBlazer smashed into a utility pole and overturned near Martin.
While bystanders attempted to help the wounded victims, they had to discontinue their efforts due to risks associated with the downed power lines. According to nearby resident Deborah Blackman, “It’s terrible that we see so many accidents here; it’s like John Kronk is another highway.” Detroit Police Department (DPD) officials and emergency medical services (EMS) personnel were subsequently dispatched to the scene.
According to information collected by Detroit Police Cmdr. John Serda and Detroit Public Schools (DPS) spokesperson Steve Wasko, two 15-year-old girls, both of Southwestern High School, were killed in the SUV rollover accident. Three others, two of which were 16-year-old Southwestern High School students, were transported to an area hospital for treatment. The fourth injured victim allegedly left the scene after the crash. He/she was later taken to a local hospital to be treated by doctors and nurses.
DPD authorities are expected to conduct a full investigation into the horrific SUV rollover wreck.
