Legal news for Arizona personal injury attorneys. Palm tree fronds collapsed, killing a landscaper in a Mesa front yard.

Arizona personal injury attorneys alert- A landscaper is dead after palm tree fronds caused suffocation.

Mesa, AZ—A landscaper was tragically killed when heavy palm fronds he was working with collapsed on top of him, suffocating him to death. The worker was working in a front yard of a Mesa home in the area of Country Club Drive and Brown Road on Saturday afternoon, April 17, 2010, as reported by AZFamily.com.

The unidentified man was reportedly working in a palm tree 45 feet up in the air when the palm fronds collapsed, taking him down with it. The worker’s partner was on the ground at the time but told firefighters that there was nothing he could do to help him. By the time rescue teams arrived at the scene the worker was already dead. It is believed the man died from suffocation. Mesa Fire Department Capt. Jerome Schirmer stated, “That size of a skirt probably weighs over 1,000 pounds. When that comes down on top of you and you’re leaned back, it can literally break you in half.”

Police officials are currently withholding the name of the victim, but they did state he was in his mid-30’s and left behind a wife and young family. A full investigation is currently underway. It was not reported who the deceased victim worked for at the time.
