Crystal Lake, IL—A two-vehicle crash involving a car and a sport utility vehicle resulted in one fatality and left three others injured in Crystal Lake, Illinois Saturday, April 10, 2010. Alcohol is a suspected factor in the deadly 11:48 p.m. motor vehicle collision (MVC), which occurred at the junction of Huntley Road and Waterford Court, according to information provided by the Chicago Sun-Times.

Reports stated a westbound 2001 Pontiac Trans Am was traveling on Waterford Court when its driver lost control upon attempting to turn south onto Huntley Road. The Pontiac was sent careening into the northbound lanes of Huntley Road and became involved in a collision with a 1994 Jeep Cherokee as a result. The front of the Jeep apparently struck the passenger side of the Pontiac, causing both the car and SUV to veer off the roadway before coming to a stop.

Crystal Lake Police Department officials and fire rescue personnel responded to the scene of the violent SUV-involved motor vehicle accident to transport those injured to area hospitals. A female passenger, identified as 24-year-old Vanessa M. Toby, was riding in the Pontiac when it crashed and consequently suffered severe injuries, which she succumbed to at Centegra Memorial Hospital.

The unidentified 23-year-old driver of the Pontiac was seriously injured and taken to Centegra as well. A 28-year-old female Pontiac passenger was taken to Centegra-Northern Illinois Medical Center for minor injuries, while the third passenger in the vehicle, a 25-year-old woman, was flown to Condell Hospital via medical helicopter.

The 34-year-old male driver of the Jeep SUV and his 33-year-old female passenger were evaluated at the scene and subsequently released. Criminal charges are pending the outcome of the Crystal Lake Police Department’s Targeted Response Unit’s probe into the fatal SUV-car collision.
