Always the advocate for user-friendly services and cutting edge capabilities, Google has recently added a new option that gives the users the ability to search by location.
Google “Nearby” is the next step in the search engine giant’s strategy to make it the ideal, custom go-to for online searches.
“Location has become an important part of the way we search. If you’re a foodie looking for restaurant details, food blogs or the closest farmer’s market, location can be vital to helping you find the right information,” says Google Product Manager Jackie Bavaro.
“One of the really helpful things about this tool is that it works geographically — not just with keywords — so you don’t have to worry about adding ‘Minneapolis’ to your query and missing webpages that only say ‘St. Paul” or ‘Twin Cities,’” Bavaro adds.
In the past, Google has tapped into their users’ locations to present relevant search results for quite some time, but “Nearby” is the first step in letting users decide when they want their location to be used to retrieve results for specific searches.
In regards to local queries, Google is strong delivering local results by default, but this new option puts users in the driver’s seat by allowing them to customize their results to match their preferences.
The feature is currently only available on Google.com in English.
