Toole family killed in violent semi-truck crash near Lake Pointe, UT

Utah Highway Patrol (UHP) alerts- Three people are dead following a semi-truck and car crash.

Salt Lake City, UT—Three family members were pronounced dead after an oncoming semi-truck slammed into the vehicle on Thursday, January 28, 2010. The Tooele family was involved in the fatal wreck, which occurred around 7:00 p.m. on State Road 36 near Lake Pointe, as reported by the Salt Lake Tribune.

The Utah Highway Patrol (UHP) reported that the family’s car was traveling southbound on State Road 36 when the car veered over the centerline into both of the northbound lanes. The driver of the car then over-corrected and swerved into the path of a semi-truck. The tractor-trailer was not able to stop before hitting the car on the driver’s side. Three people were pronounced dead at the scene by responding emergency crews. The deceased victims were identified as Jacob F. Herrera, 21; Kristi S. Westfall, 30; and Damian Herrera, 9 months, all family members from Tooele. Rescue crews believe all three people were killed instantly. The violent and horrendous wreck shut down both directions of State Road 36 where the crash took place. Police officials are conducting a full investigation into the wreck. It is unknown if any citations were issued in connection with the accident.
