Michigan crash involving semi-truck and minivan injured three.

Ottawa County, MI—A motor vehicle collision (MVC) involving a parked semi-truck and a minivan injured three people on Sunday evening, January 17, 2010, reports WoodTV.com. The crash allegedly occurred at approximately 8:30 p.m.

The two-vehicle crash occurred after the rig of a semi-truck, driven by 63-year-old David Carlson, got caught in the snow as when he was backing the semi into a driveway on 80th Avenue, located near Cleveland Street. When Carlson exited the truck to assess the situation, a passing minivan struck the trailer of the semi, which had apparently been sticking out beyond the length of the driveway. On impact, the trailer of the big rig rolled onto Carlson, allegedly trapping him underneath.

Emergency medical services (EMS) crews responded to the scene of the horrifying incident to extricate the severely injured truck driver from beneath the trailer. He was transported in serious but stable condition to an area hospital to be treated by doctors and nurses. Two people reportedly occupied the minivan when it struck the trailer of the semi, including the driver, 62-year-old Dan Vanderwoude and his wife, 62-year-old Trenna Vandewoude. They were allegedly transported to an area hospital to be treated for minor injuries by medical professionals. They were later released. It is unknown if any citations were issued in correlation with the motor vehicle wreck.
