Page County, VA—A cheerful ride on a holiday horse-drawn wagon quickly turned tragic when a driver slammed into the back of the wagon, spooking the horses and injuring fourteen people. A Ford Mustang rear-ended the wagon around 8:00 p.m., along Main Street in Stanley, as reported by MSNBC.

Police officials reported the driver of a 2006 Mustang apparently wasn’t paying attention when it struck the back of the horse-drawn wagon that was carrying about 20 adults and children. The driver of the wagon, Arnold Dean, was ejected into a yard, and the riders were pulled by the Clydesdale horses for about 100 yards before it struck an electric pole. The spooked horses took off and were later recovered. The wagon driver and thirteen people were rushed by emergency medical services (EMS) crews to an area hospital for treatment of their injuries. One woman reportedly sustained a compound fracture of her leg and was airlifted to another hospital. None of the injuries were life threatening. The driver of the Mustang was uninjured, and was charged with reckless driving. Police officials do not believe alcohol/drugs or speed were factors in the collision. The wagon reportedly was fully equipped with flashing lights, reflective signs, tape, and holiday lights.
