Two injured at Golden Corral when a Florida pickup truck crashed through the wall.
Lunch was cut short for a husband and wife on Wednesday, December 9, 2009, when a pickup truck crashed through a wall at a Golden Coral restaurant in Altamonte Springs, injuring the couple. The pickup truck crashed through the building at 1:35 p.m. at the restaurant located along State Road 434, as reported by the Orlando Sentinel.
According to Seminole County Sheriff’s Office deputies, the driver of the Chevrolet SSR pickup truck was allegedly turning into a parking spot when she continued over the curb, through the bushes and a wall, subsequently ending up in the dining room of the restaurant. It is reported that it took the rescue crew on the site approximately 20 minutes to get the driver out of the damaged vehicle. His name has not been released.
Emergency medical services (EMS) crews were on the scene to transport Jean Taylor, 78, to Orlando Regional Medical Center as well as her husband, Ben Taylor, 82, who were taken by paramedics to Florida Hospital Altamonte. Jean Taylor was pushed onto a table and then thrown to the floor when the wall was impacted. Ben Taylor was struck by debris caused by the crash. The driver of the pickup truck was also transported to Orlando Regional Medical Center.
The Golden Coral restaurant, which sustained major structural damage, closed after the incident and will have to undergo necessary repairs before reopening.
