Boulder, CO—Two women’s basketball players from the University of Colorado (CU-Boulder) are recovering after a two-vehicle crash. The motor vehicle collision (MVC) happened while on their way to pass out candy at an annual “Trunk or Treat” event on Saturday, October 24, 2009, as reported by the San Jose Mercury News.
CU-Boulder freshmen forward Kailah Bailey, of Omaha, Nebraska, and senior center Courtney Dunn, of Berkeley, California, were reportedly on their way to distribute candy at the annual “Trunk or Treat” event at the Erie Community Center, when the van they were traveling in made a left turn and hit another vehicle. Bailey was reportedly driving the van, and Dunn was traveling in the front seat when the crash occurred. Police officials issued Bailey a ticket in connection with the wreck for failure to yield. The two basketball players were transported by emergency medical services (EMS) teams to Exempla Good Samaritan Hospital in Lafayette for treatment of their injuries. Bailey apparently sustained a potential traumatic brain injury (TBI) and Dunn was treated for a sore back. The injured basketball players are expected to be reevaluated by the CU Sports Medicine Staff. Police officials are conducting a full investigation into the two-vehicle collision.
