Fiery Hernando County I-75 18-wheeler accident kills driver of semi-truck.

Tampa, FL–A fiery motor vehicle collision (MVC) left one person dead and another injured on Monday morning. According to My Fox Tampa Bay, the two-vehicle automobile accident took place on I-75 in Brooksville, Florida. Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) state troopers responded to the emergency call at approximately 5:00 a.m., early Monday morning. Hernando County highway accident investigators say a big rig truck rear-ended a Dodge van in the southbound lanes on I-75, just north of State Road 50. Brooksville police officials report the driver of the 18-wheeler truck, whose name has not been released, was unable to avoid ramming into the van. The tractor-trailer truck then flipped onto its left side before veering down the southbound lanes. Police officers have not indicated the name of the company that owns the truck. A fire erupted from the trailer as the semi-truck came to a rest. The impact of the crash forced the van, driven by 55 year-old Aubrey Pinion of Dade City, into a guard rail.

Brooksville area emergency medical services (EMS) teams pronounced the driver of the big rig dead at the accident scene. The driver of the van, Pinion, sustained major injuries. It is unknown whether the two vehicles had any occupants. Hernando County authorities proposed a State Road 50 detour route for southbound traffic. Northbound traffic was also affected by the commotion, causing cars in those lanes to move at a slower speed. The freeway was shut down for about three hours while crew members cleared the truck wreck scene. Southbound traffic resumed at around 8:30 a.m.
