Los Angeles County car crash kills 1 and injures 3 after driving off cliff.

Los Angeles, CA (JusticeNewsFlash.com)—Four young Pico Rivera men drove off the edge of Highway 39 in the Angeles National Forest on Tuesday, June 26, 2009. The fatal motor vehicle accident left one dead and three others injured, as reported by the San Gabriel Valley Tribune. California Highway Patrol (CHP) http://www.chp.ca.gov/ officials state, a 2005 Ford Mustang transporting four males, drove off an embankment on Highway 39, and plummeted 50 to 60 feet into a valley. CHP investigators believe the car drove off the edge when the driver failed to negotiate a curve in the road.

The victims were identified as, Steven Alex Shanchez, 19, Javier Araujo, 19, Carlos Ineriano, 20, and the driver, 19-year-old Jose Torres, all from Pico Rivera. Two of the injured men, Torres, and Ineriano, were flown by helicopter to the Los Angeles County-USC Medical Center for treatment of their injuries. Araujo, reportedly only suffered minor injuries and was treated at the scene of the accident by emergency medical services (EMS) crews. The Los Angeles area coroner’s office stated Shanchez, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was killed in the crash from his serious injuries. The rescue effort took over two hours, and required more than 40 Los Angeles County Fire Department officials to complete the rescue. The fatal one-vehicle accident is still under investigation by CHP detectives. Los Angeles area officials are asking any witnesses to come forward to aid in the ongoing investigation.
