San Antonio Cervelat sausage recalled for high illness risk

San Antonio, TX(JusticeNewsFlash.com)–FSIS federal regulators and Laxson Provision Company issued a Class I recall on about 350 pounds of Cervelat sausage products. Laxson Provision Company is a firm based out of San Antonio, Texas. The United States Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) www.fsis.usda.gov is an agency of the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) www.usda.gov. The FSIS is responsible for ensuring the safety of the nation’s egg, poultry, and meat products. A Class I recall is issued when the product may cause serious health consequences including death. The San Antonio sausage company and FSIS investigators issued the high risk sausage alert on June 24, 2009, after a grocer complaint. Laxson Provision managers and supervisors discovered the product may be undercooked, posing a health hazard.

The following items are under federal recall:

-3 to 3.5 lb. “Ready to Eat Laxson Quality meat Products CERVELAT” vacuum packed chubs bearing a “8952” lot number, “Produced June 0809” production date, “EST-13342” establishment number, and “12053” item number.

The recalled sausage products were made on June 8, 2009, before being packaged on June 9, 2009. The items were sent to small San Antonio area grocers. No injuries related to the recalled products have been reported. Consumers who have fallen ill due to the consumption of the product should consult a doctor.
