New York City health officials are cooperating with state and federal agencies to educate, alert, and prevent the spread of swine flu, which has killed one toddler in Texas and over 100 people in Mexico City. California, Texas, Arizona, Indiana, Kansas, Massachusetts, Michigan, Nevada, and Ohio all have confirmed cases of swine illness.

The CDC along with the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) www.hhs.gov state there are simple prevention measures consumers can take to help protect against contracting the swine flu:

New York health officials are urging all residents and travelers to stay at home if they are sick. Avoid work, school, and contact with other people until you are better. Infected people who cough or sneeze spread influenza through person-to-person contact. Contact your doctor and seek symptom treatment if you develop aches, pains, fever, cough or sneeze. If you suspect you are sick or may have contracted the swine flu virus seek medical attention immediately. Information about the worldwide and national outbreak of the new strain of Influenza-A, along with assistance may be found on the CDC’s website www.cdc.gov and on the www.PandemicFlu.gov website.
