Chicago,IL(JusticeNewsFlash.com)–Illinois State Police continue to investigate a semi-truck wreck on the Tri-State Tollway at mile marker 62 near Libertyville that halted Metra train service. As reported by the Chicago Tribune, a semi-truck driver fell asleep at the wheel, drove off the Tri-State Tollway, and hit a pillar at about 5:20 a.m. Tuesday morning. The truck wreck sent massive chunks of concrete onto Metra railroad tracks which caused Illinois State Police troopers and railroad authorities to halt Metra service.
Milwaukee District North Line commuter passenger train was stopped, and trains to Chicago were delayed about an hour. Motor vehicle traffic on the Tri-State Tollway was backed up for miles in the northbound lanes near Libertyville. The semi-truck driver was transported to Lake Forest Hospital for minor injuries. He was treated by doctors and nurses and released. The damage to the tollway overpass seems extensive; however, Illinois State Police highway accident investigators state the roadway will remain open while the wreckage debris and reconstruction project continues.
