FDA warns Kosher smoked salmon tests positive-Listeria contamination

Strubs Norwegian Style Smoked Steelhead Salmon tests positive for harmful Listeria.
New York, NY (JusticeNewsFlash.com)–The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) www.fda.gov issued a recall on Tuesday of smoked salmon distributed by West Side Foods, Inc., of Bronx, New York. Consumers are warned to stop eating Strubs Norwegian Style Sliced Smoked Steelhead Salmon that is sold in 300 gram packages because of a high risk of Listeria monocytogenes (L. Monocytogenes) contamination.
According to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) www.cdc.gov, Listeria is a foodborne bacteria that can cause serious illness, injury and even death when ingested by innocent consumers. The contaminated steelhead smoked salmon was imported from Canada by the Bronx food company, and 13 cartons were sold to kosher retail stores in New York and Maryland. Consumers who bought the Strubs salmon product should dispose of the fish immediately, wash their hands thoroughly and consult the FDA website or call the FDA’s Emergency Operation Center (301) 443-1240.
The food poisoning was discovered by the FDA and the Canadian Food Inspection Agency during routing testing of the kosher salmon products. Food poisoning illness caused by Listeria can infect consumers and cause the following symptoms: high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea plus can cause miscarriages and stillbirths in pregnant women. L. monocytogenes has been known to cause fatal infections in young children, frail, or older people, and consumers with weakened immune systems.
